J Cabot Seth, Chairman of the Board of Family Honor, Inc. is pleased to announce a new Strategic Plan for “Putting Family Honor on the Path to Being in Every Diocese in America.”
Mr. Seth indicated that the new Plan “… is the result of nine months of intense research, meetings, and coordination among staff, board members and volunteers who gave significant amounts of their time to create a goal-oriented document that our organization has begun to implement. This document is a significant milestone in the organization’s development.”
Background: Inspired by the Theology of the Body
Family Honor, Inc. first took shape 22 years ago, pulled together by a small group of families who saw first-hand the existing need for catechesis in the truth and meaning of God’s gift of sexuality and the virtue of chastity. Inspired by the writings of Pope John Paul II in his series of talks that have come to be known as the Theology of the Body, this initial group of families created a plan for training men and women to become chastity presenters.
As part of this early plan, Family Honor developed unique curricula that brought parents and children together, to attend a Family Honor program at their local parish, in order to learn a ‘common language’ and practical tools, so that they could better communicate within their own family about life issues, chastity and God’s gift of sexuality.
An Experienced Organization
J indicated that, in the time since, Family Honor, Inc. has “ … developed some significant assets and competencies, including a deeply committed board of directors; a trio of highly experienced staff leaders; a cadre of competent, passionate presenters in South Carolina and five additional states; and some strong organizational relationships.” He also said that, most importantly, Family Honor developed core competencies in two major areas:
1) Getting people to see the spiritual gravity, dignity, and self-value embedded in their sexuality in a way that changes how they feel about themselves and others;
2) Teaching families (parents and children) a way to talk to each other about highly challenging topics in a common, values-informed language.
J went on to comment: “Unfortunately, the pace of Family Honor’s growth has, up to this point, kept it a relatively small scale enterprise operating in a handful of communities in a six states. Without a quantum step forward, it might take another 22 years to double what is now in place. This three year Strategic Plan will take Family Honor ‘way station’ on the journey to a ten year vision of being in every diocese in America (and ultimately, beyond America) and appreciated at the diocesan level as an essential tool for families. This ‘way station’ represents more than tripling the number of graduates of our courses, visitors to our website, program presenters, and affiliates.”
What Is Needed
Brenda Cerkez, executive director for Family Honor, stated that, to get to this way station and to that ten year vision, “… will require an additional front end investment by those who regard a family-centered approach to chastity education as a critical tool in changing a culture that has grown more and more aggressive in it’s promotion of a philosophy that does not respect the dignity of the human person.
For our Plan to succeed, we will need donors who are willing to help us reach our financial goal of $600,000 over three years in order to permit Family Honor to build its infrastructure and its annual operational funding. This will allow us to truly expand our organization’s competencies and capacities in program presentation, marketing and outreach, affiliate development and technology.”
J added “With this front end investment, which we are calling the Plan to Put Family Honor on the Path to Being in Every Diocese in America’, Family Honor will become the major asset to the Catholic community that it can and should be.”
