J Cabot Seth, Chairman “Family Honor has been a big part of my life since its inception.”
J and his family have been involved with Family Honor since the beginning. As J puts it: “Family Honor has been a big part of my life since its inception. My wife, Tonia, and most of my children have been heavily involved. We were there working out of Nerbun’s garage [Family Honor co-founders Ann and Bob Nerbun] before the books and the manuals, before the power points, before the Internet presenter training course, before this tremendous journey really began. I served as Family Honor board chairman for the first 10 years before rotating off the board for a number of years. Now, the Family Honor Board has blessed me to serve again as Chairman and I am truly delighted.” J, a graduate of Notre Dame, is an attorney in Sumter, SC. He and his wife, Tonia, have continued to serve as presenters for Family Honor programs. They have five children and seven grandchildren.

John, a graduate of the U.S. Military Academy at West Point and the Medical College of Georgia, sums up his personal philosophy as follows: “Loving communication backed by personal example and prayer. Communication implies mutual understanding through careful talking and listening. Personal example means striving to live the Gospel message, recognizing we all fall short. Prayer – at a retreat I went to, we were told that the most important thing you can do for another is develop a deep prayer life.”

Lisa Cottingham “Family Honor is an invaluable ministry for families seeking to connect with their children about God’s gift of sexuality, grounded in Catholic teaching.”
Lisa joined the Family Honor Board in 2009 and is currently chairman of the Marketing Committee. She says: “Family Honor is an invaluable ministry for families seeking to connect with their children about God’s gift of sexuality, grounded in Catholic teaching. My experience with Family Honor programs has led me to be a supporter of their programs since I truly believe that parents need to understand the importance of their teaching role and be committed to talking to their children about chastity. They need to seek out ways to articulate their values, especially in a culture that does not understand or value chastity.” Lisa has a B.S. in Marketing from Penn State University and has done graduate study with St. John’s School of Theology. She is currently the Director of Recipient Services for East Cooper Meals on Wheels, and has also served as a board member and Chair of Christ Our King-Stella Maris School and as Chair of the Pastoral Council at Saint Benedict Catholic Church. Lisa is married with four children.

Kathy Schmugge
“… Family-centered chastity education provides an opportunity for families to learn together and grow together.”
Kathy currently serves as the Assistant Director for the Family Life Office of the Diocese of Charleston, SC and is also a writer for the Catholic News and Herald. She has a high level of enthusiasm in her role as board member for Family Honor, stating that “In the current culture, it is important to bring families together on this issue (chastity) because the information in the media is the opposite message of God’s plan for love and life. Family-centered chastity education provides an opportunity for families to learn together and grow together.” Kathy, who is also a presenter for Family Honor, graduated from the University of North Carolina-Wilmington with a B.S. in Chemistry. She served as a Master Training Specialist for the Navy Nuclear Power School. She is currently working on a Masters in Pastoral Theology with Ave Maria University. Chris Segars
“...the home environment must be conducive to a commitment to chastity.”
Chris was very familiar with Family Honor programs when she joined the Family Honor Board in 2009, since she had participated in them as a parent. Chris also serves on the state board of the S.C. Council of Catholic Women. Currently, she works as a grant writer for the City of Columbia. A graduate of Francis Marion College, Chris has been married to her husband, Carlton, for 19 years and they have two children, a 16-year-old son and a 12-year-old daughter. The parents have to support and openly reinforce the value of chastity. Family Honor allows parents to do just that.”
