Family Honor, Inc. affirms chastity as a moral virtue, a gift from God, a grace and fruit of spiritual effort. The individual who lives the virtue of chastity experiences purity of mind and heart and expresses true love towards others. Family Honor’s mission and programs are reinforced and enhanced by Pope John Paul II’s theology of the body, which emphasizes the dignity of the human body as a means of understanding the human person.
Family Honor, Inc. affirms the pre-eminence of God’s design for family to be the embodiment of God’s Trinitarian love. The family is the natural environment most conducive to education in human sexuality and formation in its corresponding virtue of chastity. Parents, by virtue of having conferred life on their child, have not only the primary and inalienable right but the corresponding duty to impart values and develop virtues in their child.
Love is the form of all virtues and virtue is the perfection of the human person. Therefore, the virtue of chastity is necessary for one to become an authentically loving person and is the foundation for an individual’s successful integration of sexuality as core to body-soul unity.
Chastity is sexual respect, sexual reverence and sexual restraint, developed over time, which strengthens the individual to act lovingly in all sexual expression; to be pure of mind, heart and action; and to refrain from all sexual actions of an impure nature which use the human body as an object of self-centered pleasure.
Virtues reside primarily in personal actions and are acquired through the repetition of good acts with the help of God’s grace. All virtuous living demands practice, exercise, cultivation, development, spiritual effort and is based on a lifelong pursuit, beginning from the earliest days of life until death.
The family mirrors God’s Trinitarian love: the communion of the three persons of God, mirrored by the love of the spouses and the formation of a new and unique community of persons.
Parents or guardians benefit from opportunities to increase their confidence and competence in regard to sexuality education by communicating with their child on important life issues in settings which promote parent-child connectedness and the enrichment of family life.
