For some time now, demand for our parent-child programs and presenter training has been increasing across the United States, to the point where our small staff and limited funds cannot supply enough personnel to travel to various states to meet the needs of parishes and dioceses asking for assistance.
As a partial solution to this problem, Family Honor obtained grants three years ago to work with a technology company to develop an interactive DVD-based version of our traditional classroom-based course, The Principles of Teaching Family-Centered Chastity Education.
This DVD is completed and we have successfully implemented this long-distance learning with new groups of adult students from around the country each semester in Phase I of their training.
We are happy to report that during the past year we have received additional foundation funding to produce Phase II of our presenter training, called The Family Honor Mentoring System.
The Family Honor Mentoring System will be a "standard method" that will be used to supplement live coaching for new adult Interns who want to be Family Honor presenters.
The primary component of this System will be DVD package featuring two of Family Honor's parent-child programs which have been produced in a segment-by-segment format in a recording studio. Commentary by Family Honor's National Affiliate Director is included before and after each program segment. This commentary lets Interns know what the learning objectives of that segment are, what to watch for, and how best to prepare for presenting that segment with their local team.
Each Family Honor intern will receive a DVD package that will help them learn their parts in Family Honor programs. They will have the ability to play this video on their television as often as necessary to hone their skills.
In December, a significant number of experienced Family Honor presenters from South Carolina and Georgia assisted at various points during a five-day in-studio taping of our Real Love & Real Life program in Columbia, South Carolina.
The footage from this taping is now being edited and will be included with the Changes & Challenges program DVD done several months ago. The Mentoring System package will also have a full length actual Real Love & Real Life program and a full length actual Changes & Challenges program, to show the intern what program delivery looks like taped in front of a live regular audience of parents and children at a host site.
